No spamI have been thinking how the social media could become an important part of internet. I have also been wondering what “spam” this fashion term really means.

How about linking social media with spam? I am sure most of you would say no…no. Indeed, spam is something you don’t to touch in the social media….explicitly. You may get banned for good even just for try. Spam filters in the social media work great. Their moderators are extremely strict. It really doesn’t worth your effort to have a spam post show up in a social media for a split second.

I never believed anyone would do something for nothing. Admit it, please, we are all human being. So, how to make the social media worth your while? This seems to be a hot topic in the blog circle recently. Some articles say many prominent CEOs have asked their marketing terms for the same question.

Ha-ha, marketing. Finally, we got a link between social media and marketing. A research conducted by Metro Solutions suggests that social media actually plays a large role in the success of online marketing campaigns. Yes, they are right. Social media is a great vehicle to promote a product brand or solicit visitors for a service website. Nevertheless, the ultimate goal of social media campaigns is still to generate sales……indirectly.

I like what I read from an article, the value of social media is not determined by how much money you make. Instead, it is determined by how your business receives value from it. It’s undeniable that no matter how people say otherwise, a large portion of social media goers spend significant amount of time there for nothing but profiting from it, which is clearly against the terms of use set forth by most social medial networks.

When a social media is used by people to make profit, it can no longer distinguish itself from other business portals. I visited and used a number of social media sites and so far haven’t seen many articles that are posted without intentions of soliciting visitors to other websites. To me, there is no substantial difference between this type of solicitation and simply putting advertising languages in a post.

Therefore, if using social media to attract visitors to a different site is considered as spamming, I have to say every social media user is a spammer. A group of social forums in China have designated special “spam” areas for explicit spammers so that implicit spammers can use the “clean” parts of the sites with less interference. That’s might be a good idea.

What have made social media sites grow so fast? – Spammers. The day when spammers all disappear will mark the day for social media to vanish.
